Grazing at the Watering Hole is a unique long-table dining experience that aims to showcase the outback town of Thallon, Western Queensland, highlighting local businesses, food producers, musicians and artists. With the spectacular Thallon Silos as a backdrop, Grazing at the Watering Hole offers local and visiting guests a relaxed outback feel alongside an extraordinary culinary and cultural experience. This year’s event will grow from 120 guests in 2018 to 200 guests.
The special event aims to encourage visitors to the region through showcasing and supporting local producers and offering a truly local, unique cultural experience for the community to enjoy and feel proud of. Featuring local musicians “When Sonny Getz Blue”, live art demonstration by (silo artist) Drapl and hosted by Thallon Progress Association, the event has a relaxed country feel while being beautifully presented with uplighting of the magnificent silos, festoon lighting, a 50+meter long ‘grazing table’ featuring local produce, fresh pressed linen and napery, menus, candles, floral arrangements featuring local wheat and cotton, and an exciting fireworks show.
What People Say
My daughter and I attended the inaugural ‘ Grazing at the Waterhole’ event in 2018. The long table, under the stars, extending across the open ground, with the sunset silos lit up in the background was an awesome outback setting. It created an upscale and distinctive venue, not usually available in our community.
Plus, the fact that so much of the produce, food and drink, was sourced locally, We were also privileged to have one of the silo artists present demonstrating his talent, explaining his techniques and answering questions from guests. Congratulations to the organisers and their immense commitment and work towards creating and producing such an original event.Louise Fulwood, Thallon Local
